Message from the Superintendent

A Message from Eric Cederquist, Fowler Unified Superintendent 

The 2016/2017 school year will provide numerous opportunities for students’ academic as well as social and emotional growth, due to an outstanding staff of highly committed educators and employees in the Fowler Unified School District.  The one constant we all face is that our world is rapidly changing and as a result our motto of “Every Day, Every Way, Striving for Continuous Improvement” has never been more relevant in order to prepare students for constant change in the world of College and Career Path Readiness.

Schools and employees in the Fowler Unified School District received unprecedented recognition and awards during the 2015/2016 school year from the California Department of Education, Fresno County Office of Education, First 5 of Fresno County, Cal Ed Partners, Bonner Foundation of Fresno State University, AMAE, California Business Education Council, US News and World Report, The Children’s Movement, Channel 24 – Education Matters as just a few examples.

In 2015/2016 Fowler Unified implemented Every1Access – a 1 to 1 laptop program – at Sutter Middle School and Fowler High School.  Every student in grades 6-12 had a Chromebook laptop for 24/7 computer access.  Students used the laptops for research, homework, special projects, and personal needs.  A survey at the end of the year showed 93% of students stated the Chromebooks made school easier and more relevant.  And over 65% of students said their Chromebooks helped them prepare for tests, complete projects, and collaborate with other students.  Technology for students is now more important than ever.

Fowler Unified’s Foundational Goals

Fowler Unified School District has established Four Foundational Goals for every student:

I.     Meet or Exceed Grade Level Standards in each Core Academic Area

      II.   Participation by ALL students in one or more of……...

  •  Arts                                  •  Athletics                •  Activities/Clubs

  •  After School Programs    •  Service Learning

     III.   Demonstrate FUSD Big 10 Character Traits and actively serve the communities of Fowler and Malaga

     IV.      Graduate from high school prepared to enter College or a Career Path

Fowler Unified School District will have a Facilities Bond Measure on the November 6, 2016 voter ballot – Examples of the projects to be completed as part of a Bond measure include:

New Band / Performing Arts / Multi-Purpose Facility at Fowler High School

Agriculture Facility Refurbishment with Career Technical Education classrooms and Lab facilities

New Pool at FHS and All Weather Track Resurfacing for student/community use

Meet rapid changes in education, technology and student enrollment growth at all school sites 

The communities of Fowler and Malaga value education and are highly supportive of our schools.  Expectations for student success and behavior are very clear as a result of the high level of support.  The staff of the Fowler Unified School District looks forward to providing a challenging and positive learning experience for the students of Fowler Unified in the 2016/2017 school year.  Thank you for your support of schools in the Fowler Unified School District.
